Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Apparel Local collects, uses, and protects information when you visit or interact with our website.

Effective date: March 15, 2026

1. Introduction

Apparel Local (“we,” “our,” “us”) operates a digital platform that showcases and highlights independent clothing brands and fashion creators. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when users visit or interact with our website. By accessing or using the Apparel Local website, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information Provided by Users

We may collect information that users voluntarily provide, including:

  • Email address (if users create an account or sign up)
  • Messages submitted through contact forms
  • Information submitted when saving content or interacting with platform features

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our website, we may automatically collect limited technical information about your device and how you interact with the platform to help improve your experience.

This may include:

  • Browser type and device information
  • Pages visited and time spent on pages
  • Interaction with website features
  • General geographic location

3. How We Use Information

Information collected may be used to:

  • Provide and maintain the Apparel Local platform
  • Enable user accounts and saved content features
  • Improve website performance and user experience
  • Respond to user inquiries
  • Monitor usage patterns and protect the platform from misuse

Apparel Local does not sell or rent personal information to third parties.

4. Cookies and Analytics

We use a small set of cookies and privacy-respecting analytics to understand how visitors discover and engage with the brands on our platform. You are always in control: analytics only activate after you grant consent, and you can change your choice at any time from the footer.

First-party cookies we set

These cookies are set by Apparel Local directly. They contain no personal information.

  • al_anon — a random anonymous visitor ID (UUID), set only after you grant analytics consent. Expires after one year. Lets us recognize returning visitors without knowing who you are.
  • al_anon_first_seen — a timestamp of when you first granted consent. Same one-year expiry. Used to distinguish new visitors from returning ones.
  • cc_cookie — stores your cookie preferences so we do not ask again. Set by our consent banner regardless of whether you accept or decline analytics.

Session storage

In addition to cookies, we use your browser’s session storage (not a cookie, but worth disclosing) to keep a short-lived session identifier:

  • al_session and al_session_last_seen — a session ID that regenerates after 30 minutes of inactivity and is cleared automatically when you close the tab.

Third-party analytics

We use Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand aggregate site usage. It only loads and stores cookies (typically _ga and _ga_*) after you grant analytics consent, using Google Consent Mode v2. Use of Firebase Analytics is subject to Google’s privacy policy.

The data processed includes:

  • Page views and session duration
  • Anonymized device and browser information
  • Country-level geographic location
  • Custom events such as brand views, filter usage, search queries, and external link clicks

We do not use ad tracking, third-party advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking of any kind.

What we track

Our custom events are focused on understanding how people discover brands, not on profiling individuals. We record:

  • Pages you visit on the site
  • Brands and products you view
  • Filters and search queries you use on the Discover page
  • Clicks on brand website, Instagram, and TikTok links
  • Referrer URL — when you arrive on Apparel Local from another website (via a link or search result), we capture the URL of that previous page on your first page load of each session. We use this to understand which sites and search engines drive visitors to the marketplace. Subsequent page loads within the same session do not re-capture this. The full URL is stored but not linked to any identifying information.

Changing your preferences

You can change your cookie choices at any time using the Cookie preferences button in the footer, which reopens the consent banner. You can accept all cookies, decline analytics, or fine-tune per category. Declining analytics blocks all tracking cookies and prevents any event collection.

Data retention

  • Raw analytics events are kept for 90 days in our database.
  • Aggregated daily rollups — containing no individual visitor detail — are kept indefinitely for historical trends.

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

You can withdraw consent at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer. You can also request deletion of analytics data by contacting us at privacy@apparellocal.com. Because we do not collect directly identifying information (name, email, precise location) through analytics, we cannot link events back to an individual without the anonymous ID stored in your own cookie — clearing cookies in your browser effectively anonymizes your prior events.

5. Third-Party Links

Apparel Local functions as a discovery platform and may link to external brand websites, online stores, or social media platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites. Users should review the privacy policies of those websites.

6. Data Protection

We implement reasonable security measures to protect information from unauthorized access or misuse. However, no online platform can guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain user information only for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations.

8. User Rights

Users may request access, correction, or deletion of their personal information by contacting us.

9. Changes to This Policy

Apparel Local may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
